Walk The Talk

I should probably read my previous post and get some sleep now.
Oh well… Good night, night owls.

Prioritize and Delegate

“Sleep later because we have a life to live” is probably one of my all time favorite quotes – especially when I was in college. Dulu tiap kali inget quote ini bawaannya jadi semangat buat kerja habis-habisan mengejar sesuatu. Buat nulis. Buat nabung lebih banyak. Basically quote penyemangat deh.

Tapi akhir-akhir ini sering terpikir kalo quote ini sedikit ridiculous. Pertama, if we don’t sleep, we don’t live. Okay, I took it too literally, tapi bener deh istirahat itu seharusnya prioritas. Take it from a 29 year old like yours truly who has gone weeks being sleep deprived. I literally cannot function without the boost of coffee and sure I love coffee, but I don’t think it’s okay to keep relying on one particular substance because that’s basically one way road to addiction, right..

But frankly to sleep more is simply not an option. Well at least for now. My wedding is weeks away and for a control freak who works 8 to 5, Monday to Saturday, with the addition of 4 hours commuting back and forth from home to work, sleep is a rare commodity these days..

I’m not complaining (well, I am, a little bit), but I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I came to a decision that I have to break up with my favorite quote. I just have to. And that leads me to now, needing a new quote. As a true narcissistic, I’m gonna make my own. Here goes: “prioritize and delegate”. Okay, apparently I suck and people won’t start quoting me anytime soon, but what I’m trying to say is that time is limited and we cannot keep trying to outrun it. The best thing we can do is to have a list of priority, stick with it, delegate the rest that we cannot do to others, and not fuss so much about how they do it.

It may sound simple, but I know firsthand that it is not the easiest thing to do.

Tapi pertanyaan yang seharusnya maha penting adalah: is it all worth it? Is it worth the time you spend away from your loved ones? Is it worth the important dates you miss in exchange for company’s business dinners? Is it worth all the holidays you spend on your computers instead of going somewhere with your kids? Is it all worth it?

I say no. Because honey, trust me, all the status and money in the world will not save you when you are strangers with your family. When you stop having meaningful conversations with your husband/wife. When your kids don’t even bother to go to you with their happy news. Or when your health starts failing…

Think about it now…
